The Intellectual Property Centre was established in 1997. Its main activity is to assist and secure the activities of firms and private persons, upon demand, through granting protection of their intellectual property rights - inventions, useful models, trade marks, geographic symbols – indications and names of origin, industrial design, plant sorts and animal pedigrees, topology of the integral schemes, copyrights, and other related ones.
The Centre offers assistance in:
- Preliminary research for industrial property objects and assessment of opportunities. Their protection on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria;
- Preparation of documents and assistance in the process of receiving protection on the territory of the European Union and other countries with international agreements and contracts in the field of the Intellectual Property under which Bulgaria is a member country;
- Preparation and implementation of sale’s contracts, settlement and provision of licenses for IP subjects.
- Embarking on administrative and judicial procedures against imitations and infringement of rights; out-of-court agreement for terminating of disruptions; settlement of disputes in front of the Court of Arbitration at BIA.
- Preparation of evaluations of intellectual property rights, as non-tangible assets.
- Preparation of information, regarding the current normative acts of the Republic of Bulgaria in the IP area and international agreements and contracts.
The Centre offers opportunities for holographic protection of products against imitation of trade marks and industrial design.
The Centre consults companies regarding the opportunities for receiving rights’ protection over the IP targets.
The Centre offers consultations and trainings, in the IP area.
The Centre assists in the execution of technological transfers
Through its membership in different councils and interdepartmental working groups, the experts of the Centre participate in the development of the regulatory base in the area of intellectual property.
The Centre partners with the Bulgarian Patent Office. BIA has an implemented contract for bilateral collaboration in the field of the industrial property. Within the frame of this contract on the territory of the regional organizations of BIA in Plovdiv and Russe the first in the country Patent Informative Centres (PATLIB - centres) have been established for assisting the business in the region. Partners of the centre are also the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, European Innovation Centre, Bulgaria SME Promotion Agency, and etc.
