Computer Training Centre
 
The Computer Training Centre at BIA was established in 1998. As a part of the Vocational Training Centre at BIA, the Centre has been licensed by the National Agency for Vocational Education and Training and issues a nationally acknowledged document for professional qualification, for the whole profession or part of the profession - “Computer Operator”, “Computer Systems Fitter”, “Computer Systems Technician” and “Programmer”. It also offers module training in Windows, MS office, HTML, Dream Weaver, programming with VisualC++, programming with Java, Corel Draw.
 
The Centre has two working halls. Each one disposes with 11 individual working places, modern technique, multimedia, 24 hours Internet access.

Since 2002, the Centre has been authorized by the Microsoft Educational and Tests Centre for the programme MOS - Microsoft Office Specialist. Those successfully completed the training under this programme receive a certificate of Microsoft acknowledged worldwide.

Since 2006, the Centre at BIA has been offering training and certification under the System - European Computer Passport Xpert, granting acknowledged qualification for working with computers, acknowledged in all European countries. The development of the programmes, the constant update of the exams, the educational contents and materials are done by the European Exam Headquarters in Hanover, Germany.

Another European certificate, which the Computer Training Centre offers is the “IT card” – a system for an independent evaluation of the working skills with computer and Internet, developed by the European Software Institute with headquarters in Spain. The “IT card” covers basic applications, which the common user uses in the everyday work – operational systems, text editors, data bases, presentations and graphic means, internet, including browsers and different systems for electronic mail management.

At the beginning of 2001, one of the first Regional Cisco Academies was established at the Centre for training network specialists in Bulgaria. The instructors at the Academy are specialists educated and trained outside of the country. The graduates from the 4-semester cycle receive the worldwide acknowledged certificate – CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) – a Cisco certificated expert for working with networks, which is a new and quality level of education in the sphere of the computer networks.

A network of local academies functions in the Regional Cisco Academy at BIA functions, which are located in the Technical University of Varna, New Bulgarian University in Sofia, Institute for Public Administration and European Integration – Sofia, Chamber of Commerce – Petrich, German-Bulgarian Vocational Training Centre – Pleven, City Community Centre – Vidin, and others

The numerous international awards speak for the good quality education of the Cisco Academy. In 2003 Cisco Academy at BIA proved that it is among the best in the country and Europe, when was presented the Award for the best instructor in the region. In 2004 in the Republic of South Africa, at the annual meeting of Cisco Academies in Europe, Middle East and Africa, the Centre of BIA overcame 3000 academies in the world and received the Award for the best student. In 2004 the Academy was awarded for the best management of network academy and received a nomination for the best instructor.

The Centre is an initiator and executor of national projects for education and qualification. In 2004, 140 unemployed women from seven cities in the country were trained under the project “New professional qualification in the field of IT and computer networks” and in 2006 eighty (80) unemployed women from 4 towns - under the project “Education for combining personal and professional life”.

Among the clients of the Centre are: the Supreme Administrative Court, Prosecutor’s Office of Appeal, Supreme Prosecutor’s Office of Cassation, Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office, different ministries: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of State Administration and Administrative Reform, Ministry of Economy and Energy, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of the Environment and Waters, National Agency for Vocational Education and Training, Sofia Municipality, Financial Supervision Commission, Registry Agency, Cadastre Agency, National Employment Agency, National Construction Control Administration, Educational Inspectorate – Sofia, Peace Corps, NPP – Kozloduy, Balkanpharma Plc., Actavis Ltd., Biochim Bank, Cooperative Bank, Raiffaisenbank Bulgaria, Benax Ltd., Bulgarian Telecommunications Company, Bulstrad, Bulgarian National Television, 7 Dni TV, Newspapers’ Group Bulgaria, Military Medical Academy, CableTel, Cosmo Bulgaria Mobile, Kamenitza Jsc., Lukoil Neftochim Jsc – Bourgas, Metropolitan Jsc., M-tel, National Health Insurance Fund, Siemens Information and Communication Ltd., Sopharma JSCo, Sofiyska Voda AD, Chimcomplect Engineering Company, and others.
